Hadestown
National Theatre, London
2 Nov 2018 - 26 Jan 2019

Anais Mitchell’s folk opera ‘Hadestown’ a retelling of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, has been transformed into a theatrical production and is currently in preview at the National Theatre.

I saw it last night and absolutely loved it! Fusing folk music with New Orleans jazz, the performance was just stunning. The staging is inventive and I was thoroughly absorbed by it. So much so that I’d love to see it again. Press night is 13 Nov and thereafter it runs until 26 Jan. It will be moving to New York’s Broadway after its National run.

Highly recommended. More details https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/shows/hadestown

Thanks for the review Jela.

You review, plus ?My Girl The River??s subsequent comments on Twitter (she is going again) have convinced me to go so I?ve booked for January.

That's great Ken. You will enjoy it!

Last night (13 Nov) was press night so official reviews are just starting to come out. I've read a couple and both were very complimentary indeed.

Today's Times newspaper has a photo from the performance and I expect the review will be in tomorrow's (15 Nov) edition.

On the train on the way home from seeing this tonight. A treat from start to finish. I loved the way the band is on the set and integrated in the show rather than stuck in a pit.

But oh man the ending. There were tears in the row behind me!

So pleased you enjoyed it. Friends in the US are going to see it on Broadway in April.
