Just getting around to listening to Sparklehorse and playing catch up with Glen Hansard who's latest album continues to please :-

Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider
Richmond Fontaine - Don't Skip Out On Me
Glen Hansard - Didn't He Ramble
Courtney Marie Andrews - No One's Slate Is Clean
Lynne Hanson - 7 Deadly Spins
Lynne Hanson - Things I Miss
Sparklehorse - Dreamt For Light Years In The Belly Of A Mountain
Eels - The Deconstruction
Sparklehorse - It's A Wonderful Life
Glen Hansard - Between Two Shores

Certainly nice to hear a new release from Eels. Buying a couple of discs direct from Lynne Hanson proved to be a good experience and the prices were nae so bad either.

All in all... some good listening.

Cheers from E

Alela Diane - Cusp Stunningly beautiful record bought at last weeks concert. Unfortunatly playing the vinyl was like frying bacon. The inner sleeve seemed to be full of abrasive dust as if the pressing plant had a sideline in sandpaper.

I emailed the label (AllPoints) and to their credit they're sending me another LP without any faffing around, I just sent them a few pics.

Unfortunately the way a lot of the "record" industry now packs its products, it seems to be based solely on keeping their budget low... even on CDs with some of the card sleeves used, it can mean you can easily damage the disc just by taking them out for playing - sadly I now even put the compact discs into an inner white sleeve as necessary - in the hope to keep them better protected. Wishing you "Good Luck" with your vinyl. After all... they are indeed - prize possessions !!!

From the doormat to the player :-

Glen Hansard - Drive All Night (EP)
Eef Barzelay - The Sinking In Of Things (EP)
Laura Veirs - The Lookout
Glen Hansard - Rhythm and Repose
Brothers Osborne - Port Saint Joe
David Kitt - Yous
Alela Diane - Cusp
Richmond Fontaine - Don't Skip Out On Me
Glen Hansard - Didn't He Ramble

The Glen Hansard recent back catalogue continues to be v.entertaining. As to the Clem Snide man Eef Barzelay's EP - it was good to get a copy on disc and it really leaves you wanting more. The new Ms Veirs album is v.nice too - be good to see her live coming soon to Mcr. Another good month for new music dropping on the mat.

Laura Veirs- The Lookout Bought from the merch table Wednesday evening in Brussels. I remember first hearing Laura on Bob's Saturday evening show (the good old days) many moons ago with the song 'Ether Sings' (from Carbon Glacier) and have been a fan ever since. A lovely record and to be honest a lovely gig that has reinstated her on the top shelf of my musical affections.

From tomorrow in the UK.

A few dropping on the doormat, but this month a recent trip into Manchester's second hand shops certainly gives the E collection a bit of a boost this month :-

1. Lucero - Among The Ghosts
2. Dan Stuart - The Unfortunate Demise of Marlow Billings
3. The Lynnes (Lynne Hanson & L. Miles)- Heartbreak Song For The Radio
4. Loma - Loma - a Shearwater connection here
5. Dan Stuart - Arizona: 1993 - 95 (CDx2) - combined two of his earlier solo albums
6. John Oates with The Good Road Band - Arkansas
7. The Jayhawks - Back Roads And Abandoned Motels
8. Sera Cahoone - From Where I Started
9. Charles Lloyd & The Marvels + Lucinda Williams - Vanished Gardens
10. Sons Of Bill - Oh God Ma'am
11. The Delta Saints - Monte Vista - a direct Delta Saint website CD buy - mostly just download only on this their latest release.
12. Willard Grant Conspiracy - Weevils In The Captain's Biscuit

We've got tickets for Lynne Hanson's upcoming show at Southport, but we are also still buzzing after attending the Manchester Eilen Jewell gig this last week = a Brilliant show indeed.

Just a few new releases dropping on the Big E mat this month with most buys back catalogue that I'd missed previously :-

1. Sister Hazel - Water (EP)
2. Dropkick - Longwave
3. Great Lake Swimmers - The Waves, The Wake
4. Iron & Wine - Weed Garden (EP)
5. Fastball - Step Into Light
6. Sister Hazel - Lighter In The Dark
7. John Hiatt & The Guilty Dogs - Hiatt Comes ALIVE at Budokan?
8. Paul Weller - True Meanings
9. The Stray Birds - Let It Pass
10.Sister Hazel - Wind (EP)

The new Paul Weller album certainly has its moments, but is still yet to grab me and it is sad indeed to hear The Stray Birds will be defunct.

6. Phil Cook - People Are My Drug

Bennet Wilson Poole
Jack Harris - The Wide Afternoon
John Smith - Hummingbird
Eddi Reader - Cavalier vinyl
Richard Thompson - 13 Rivers vinyl (no download code, they must be trying to kill vinyl off again)
Cozy Powell - Over The Top (second hand vinyl for a fiver, great condition)
Jason Isbell - Live At The Ryman vinyl
John Hiatt - Eclipse Sessions vinyl
Phosporescent - C'est La Vie vinyl
Neilson Hubbard - Cumberland Island (awaiting the postman to deliver, first time that ProperMusic haven't got something to me on release date, hmmm)

Another mix of 'old' & 'new' this month with the used buys mostly picked up on the way to the "American Aquarium"'s Manchester gig at the Night & Day a good gig indeed!!

1. Dean Wareham & Cheval Sombre - Dean Wareham Vs.Cheval Sombre
2. Rosanne Cash - She Remembers Everything
3. Joey Landreth - Whiskey
4. Judie Tzuke - Wonderland
5. Martha Scanlan - The River and The Light
6. Freakwater - Springtime
7. Drive By Truckers - A Blessing and A Curse
8. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Live From The Ryman (Live)
9. Marshall Tucker Band - Millennium Collection
10. Freakwater - Dancing Under Water
11. K T Tunstall - Wax
12. Phosphorescent - C'est La Vie

Presently trying to get some of the back catalogue Judie Tzuke on CD which is proving quite hard to get, which could explain those pricey tags when they do show up. If the US international postal costs rise much when buying from the States starts it may to go too far as it is easily will cost us a lot when added to possible inflated selling price - not a "great" prospect to be sure.

Hi E ,
Not sure if you're aware but Judy Tzuke is just about to bring out a complete collection of her work on 24 cds (Full Moon-The Complete Collection)on 16/11. HMV have listed it at about £85 which works out at about £3.50 per disk, seems pretty good value to me.

Thanks a lot for the tip, that'll certainly be one to look at. I've been playing catch up on her catalogue for a while now and have been pleased to find I still love the newer stuff too. Looking on her own website I've found most of the ones I still fancy having are shown as "Out Of Stock". Meanwhile... here's hoping for those bargain buys suddenly showing up - we can but hope!!!

Current buying being mostly based on catching up on back catologue :-

1. Howe Gelb (& Lonna Kelly) - Further Standards by...
2. GospelbeacH - Another Winter Alive
3. Judie Tzuke - Left Hand Talking
4. Gingersol - Nothing Stops Moving
5. Samantha Crain - Kinda
6. Dead Can Dance - Dionysus
7. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Live From Alabama
8. Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Live at the Twist & Shout 11.18.07
9. Judie Tzuke - Ritmo

Sadly the Judie Tzuke "Full Moon" boxset is now not for me as I'm too far into buying the single albums, but this set looks to be a good one if you're just starting on Judie's stuff - no doubts there.

Some possible up and coming new buys soon to be released that may be of some interest are :-

1. Tides Of A Teardrop (First Edition) by Mandolin Orange
2. Untethered by Willard Grant Conspiracy
3. Sunshine Rock by Bob Mould
4. Feral Roots by Rival Sons
5. Other People's Stuff by John Mellencamp

Paul - it's up to Kevin's high standards, although a little different in feel and instrumentally with quite a few horns dotted around the tracks. One I think that will grow with repeated plays, I've only played it twice to date.
