Bob Harris on 25 years of hosting BBC’s The Country Show, tattoos, and how he coped with a cancer diagnosis
It’s just over a week since he compered the annual C2C country music festival and Bob Harris chuckles when Total TV Guide asks him about how hard liquor and a US singer-songwriter led to him getting his first ever tattoo, aged 77.
Although he began his broadcasting career in 1970, presenting Radio 1’s Sounds Of The Seventies, and then hosted BBC2’s iconic music show The Old Grey Whistle Test, Bob’s now associated with country music. The first time he appeared on Radio 2’s The Country Show was 8 April 1999 with an Emmylou Harris special, and he’ll be marking his 25th anniversary on Thursday (11 April) – also his 78th birthday – with a review of his tenure.
