Today’s Rockdate Diary entry comes from 50 years ago this week and the release of ‘Hot Love’ - the first T. Rex record to top the UK Chart.

Bob’s perspective:

“I was on the road with Marc Bolan and the band when the record came out, compering an hysterical UK tour (the photo of Marc and I was taken backstage at the Portsmouth Guildhall I think) and experiencing the madness of ‘T Rextasy’ fan worship first-hand, in real time.

It was incredible.

Marc had given me a copy of the single and on my “Sounds of the 70’s” show on Radio 1 the following week, I played ‘The King of the Mountain Cometh’, one of two tracks on the B side of that old Fly Records single.”
